If you want to be able to damper and control the direction of the air leaving the register, you should always choose the 'Bar Tye with OBD damper.  This is the real register for air conditioning.  Builders use the cheap 'stamped face' registers to save money.  With a bar type register you can put the air where you want it and control how much.  You can't do with this with a stamped face register.  Definately worth the money for the comfort.

You cannot buy these at Lowe's or Home Depot.  They are typically only available

at a HVAC wholesale distributor.
